July 2017 Highlights
July has been a busy month with lots of exciting events taking place. The Eagle Radio Love Tour is one of the radio station’s highlights of the year and I absolutely love being out and about and taking my programme on the road. It gives me a great chance to get people involved with the programme, and to meet lots of new listeners. We visited 12 different towns across two weeks in our TSA of Surrey and Hampshire, which included Camberley, Fleet and a return to my University town of Farnham. On air, one of my highlights was welcoming Paula on to the show, who called me to ask if she could come along and Brave The Shave, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. She was very trusting in handing the scissors and clippers to me! See the results here. Away from the radio programme, I was invited to feed the penguins at Birdworld, meet the animals at Merrist Wood College and chat with the students at Sythwood Primary School to find out the best things about Woking! Watch all the videos from the Love Tour here.
Also in July, in the world of celebrity, I met up with Tom Parker behind the scenes of Grease the Musical at Woking’s New Victoria Theatre. He told me all about taking on the role of Danny Zuko and watch what he had to say about standing alone on stage, belting out ‘Sandy’ to an expectant audience.
Joe McElderry is a lovely bloke. Away from touring the country with his Saturday Night at the Movies concert and gearing up to don Joseph’s Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat once more, he took time out to visit a musical theatre summer school in Guildford to give them advice and talk to them about their performance. Watch the video to see the reaction of the youngsters and to hear their rendition of Any Dream Will Do.
I finished off the month in style by hosting one of my favourite events of the year, Race for Life. I took to the stage in Stoke Park, Guildford, to gee up thousands of women raising money for Cancer Research UK. It was, once again, an amazing event, and I’m still washing the mud off me from the muddy cuddles following the Pretty Muddy event! Have a little peak at all the fun here.
