Ant-Man And The Wasp
The latest Marvel film – Ant-Man And The Wasp – is out in cinemas now and provides a feel good family experience with great action scenes, scripting to make you laugh out loud and the occasional moment that leaves you blaming the dust for getting in your eyes.
Starring in the film are Michael Douglas, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.
Douglas revisits the role of Hank Pym in this follow-up to the original Ant-Man film. Talking about returning to the character he said, “sequels are great. You know everybody and don’t have to do the formal thing of saying, “Hi, I’m Michael.” It’s a more relaxed environment.”
When the creative team told Michael what was in store for him in the film, he acted like a schoolboy. They told him “you’re going to finally find Janet and Janet’s (played by) Michelle Pfeiffer. Then you guys do flashbacks when you’re thirty/forty years younger.” Michael’s reaction let the producers know he was happy with the news. “Oh man – you’ve got to be kidding me. Michelle Pfeiffer – thirty years younger. This is too good to be true man.”
Paul Rudd returns to the role of Ant-Man and said it’s like a dream come true.
“There were moments where we would take a step back and say “god, what’s happening here”, we’re grown ups. This is how we’re spending the day. This is our job. It seemed ridiculous as I was gazing longingly into Michael Douglas’ eyes and holding Evangeline’s hand and it just seemed silly.”
Evangeline Lilly is the first female superhero to be in the title of a Marvel film as she plays The Wasp, and she thinks she’s one of the most relatable superheroes of all time.
“My favourite thing about playing this character, period, is that she is a human being. She’s flawed and she’s not got a super power and she doesn’t turn green when she gets angry, she’s not been bitten by a radioactive spider, she just has a suit and that suit came out of her and her father’s mind.”
“She is hyper intelligent. She works so hard. She’s extremely determined. She’s extremely focused. She’s extremely passionate and she’s extremely empathetic. I feel like anybody can be those things. Those things are what make her super and the suit just happens to amplify all of those things within her. I love that she’s relatable and I love the idea that anyone can imagine that they could put on that suit and become the wasp.”
