Jason Manford Interview
One of the country’s best loved comedians has been making a name for himself in the world of musical theatre.
Jason Manford has now added ‘Recording Artist’ to his hugely impressive CV, as he has just released his debut album ‘A Different Stage’, showcasing his favourite songs from the musicals. Jason first stepped into the West End when he performed the role of Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, alongside Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, and this saw the start of his rise to prominence in the industry.
His love of the musicals is evident with his album featuring songs from Chess, Sunset Boulevard and My Fair Lady. However, the first track that Jason wanted on the track list was Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, having fallen in love with the song during the UK Tour where he played a role that he misses desperately!
“I still miss Caractacus. It sounds very drama to say it, but you become so close to this character that you’re playing and then they’re just gone, and you never see them again! I still speak to the producer every few weeks and ask “how’s Chitty?” because I know she’s sat in a garage somewhere and they have to go in and keep oiling her and starting her and make sure she’s alright and that the wings still work.”
With an album in the shops, and an intensive UK comedy tour set up for 2018, what does the future hold for Jason in the world of musical theatre? Well, there is one show that he would very much like to be cast in and that’s Les Miserables. Listen below to hear the full interview
